Since 1991, Tropic Tan has established itself in the Central Texas area as being one of the premier tanning center companies. Tropic Tan combined innovative new customer-oriented business practices, cutting-edge tanning technology, and professional experience to provide customers with the ultimate in indoor tanning satisfaction.
Tropic Tan was founded in 1991 in Austin, Texas. It currently is the longest standing continuous-owner chain in the Austin area. The chain expanded over the years to five locations but in recent years elected to concentrate all of its efforts to its largest flagship locations in Lakeway and Round Rock. Of these two remaining locations, the luxury Lakeway location is located at the entrance of the Lakeway resort, conveniently located for clients in that booming Lake Travis area. The Round Rock location, our largest tanning center, is conveniently located at the intersection of I35 and RR 620 offering easy access and premium tanning services to clients in the North Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown corridor.
All told, Tropic Tan has provided over 1 million tanning sessions to customers.

- Opened the first fully
computerized tanning center in Austin in 1991, precisely controlling
customer tanning session exposure times
- First tanning center in
area to offer high-performance tanning lamps and a variety of tanning
beds so that customers could choose what works best for the results
they desire and for their skin type.
- Introduced innovative
new value-packed "no-commitment" tanning memberships with
convenience of electronic funds transfers. The first in the market to
offer this alternative, Tropic Tan's new approach was welcomed by customers
that preferred the no high-pressure sales approach and convenience and
benefits of the membership . The idea was recognized in national industry
publications. Originally met with skepticism, the innovative approach
soon became the standard in the area and nationwide.
- First tanning center to
introduce a 10 minute tanning bed to the area.
- First tanning center in
central Texas to offer luxury high-pressure tanning, featuring the UltraSun
Turbo 22,000 and Magnum 52 lamp tanning beds.
- First tanning center in
the area to offer high-performance "Super" Beds, now available
at every Tropic Tan location
